CERTIFICATE
3 IN FITNESS - GYM INSTRUCTOR
Melbourne's

and 4 fitness courses with small class sizes - student numbers less than 10.
Become a fitness trainer or gym
instructor and study
full or part time
in one of the Certificate 3 in Fitness courses run at the Bentleigh training rooms.
Class notes are available online and self paced computerised tutorials form part
of the instruction method.
Professional development programs are offered at the
school. You are assured of success without stress at MHTS! Course delivery and
assessment is in line with adult learning principles incorporating structured
tutorials, interactive workshops, case studies, written examinations, project
work and practical demonstrations. Students will need to spend
several weeks after lectures have finished , to complete the course
work and assignments.
Graduates
work within the fitness industry with clients and gain employment in one of the
following fields of exercise: gym instructor, fitness leader, fitness trainer or as a fitness
instructor
conducting activities.
ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS
Students are expected to have above average literacy and numeracy
skills and be above 16 years of age.
COURSE
TIME
Students can attend the full time course held Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday. Class times are from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30
p.m.
Part
time classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evening 5.30 p.m. to
9.30 p.m. and Sunday 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

KNOWLEDGE
AND SKILLS OF THE GYM INSTRUCTOR - FITNESS LEADER
-
identify
clients’ general fitness requirements, provide a basic
screening form to clients, and advise client on fitness
facilities and services
-
take
a client through a process of screening, a discussion of fitness
goals, and a basic fitness appraisal in preparation for writing
a fitness program
-
develop
basic fitness programs for fitness industry clients
-
provide
the basic applied exercise science required for fitness
instructors
-
maintain
equipment commonly used in the fitness industry, and operate it
to manufacturer’s specifications
-
educate
clients on the application of basic anatomy and physiology of
the major systems of the human body and understand the
functional significance of these structures in relation to
movement and exercise
-
provide
basic nutritional information and advice to fitness industry
clients, who have no dietary or nutritional concerns
-
provide
appropriate advice to specific population clients on
participation in fitness appraisals and fitness activities,
including the pathology of the more common disease states and
conditions encountered within the fitness industry and the
limiting effects of the condition on exercise performance and
functional capacity
-
instruct
and supervise individual clients in fitness using basic fitness
industry equipment
-
provide
leadership to groups of clients within a fitness or sport and
recreation context
Application
for this course can be made by completing the application form and
emailing or faxing it back to the office. Payment for the course
must take place with your application. Course fees are payable by
EFTPOS - contact the office for credit card transactions - cash or
cheque and enrolments are confirmed upon receipt of payment of the
fees.
Students
enrolled in the intensive course need to complete all the
assignments and have one month after the last lecture to hand them
in for assessment. All of the unit tests are conducted during the
course. Certificates are issued when the assignments and unit tests
are completed satisfactorily. Please refer to student
guidelines and lecturers for the format to submit assignments.
