Massage Services offered at MHTS

MHTS has a qualified massage therapist available to massage and treat soft tissue injuries for the public.

Massage Therapy is a branch of natural health care that spans a wide variety of therapeutic approaches. Massage works to improve a person’s health through hands-on mobilization of muscles and other soft tissues of the body.

In definitive terms, massage is described as the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, the muscles, the ligaments and tendons, either to encourage the healing of specific injuries or to produce the general beneficial effects of relaxing muscular tension, stimulating blood circulation and improving the tone and strength of the skin and the muscles.

Do You Need a Referral?

You do not normally require a medical referral to see a Massage Therapist, however we encourage you to advise your doctor that you are receiving treatment.

Hi story of Massage Therapy

The benefits of massage were known to the ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Greek cultures. It is cited in Chinese literature as early as 3000 BC. Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, prescribed it for his patients in 460 B C. The techniques most widely used today were developed by a Swedish physician in the 19th century.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

While some Massage Therapists may focus primarily on a single method of treatment, others will combine a variety of methods in their work. Each session is tailored to the specific needs of the client. Far beyond simply “feeling good”, massage can be extremely beneficial for everyone, from infancy to childhood, through adult life and in later years. Massage, your natural health therapy:

  • Enhances mental alertness

  • Creates body awareness

  • Stimulates local blood supply and lymphatic fluids

  • Alleviates discomfort during pregnancy

  • Improves joint range of movement

  • Treats injuries caused during sport or work

  • Assists in stress management

  • Reduces levels of anxiety

  • Relieves muscular tension

  • Treats musculo-skeletal problems

  • Rehabilitation post operative

Whenever visiting a massage therapist you should always feel comfortable asking if they have graduated from a school that is accredited or approved by a credible accrediting agency, such as the Society of Clinical Masseurs.

To enjoy the benefits of massage which have been discussed, it is best to receive a therapeutic massage from a practitioner who has blended a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology,. and massage technique with a sensitive, powerful touch and the healing sense.

Massage Modalities

Relaxation Massage

A smooth flowing style that promotes general relaxation, improves circulation and range of movement, and relieves muscular tension.

Clinical Massage

Is a recognized allied health treatment that helps to restore function to injured “soft tissues” (muscles, tendons and ligaments). Lymphatic drainage disperses excess lymphatic fluid and cellular waste products. An excellent post operative technique.

Sports Massage

Combines different Massage techniques to enhance sports performance and speed up recuperation. An effective component of any training program.
